CodexA — Developer Intelligence Engine
CodexA is a local semantic code intelligence CLI that indexes a codebase, builds embeddings and a BM25 index, and exposes structured search, retrieval-augmented answers and repository analysis to AI coding assistants over HTTP, CLI or MCP.
CodexA indexes a repository locally, extracting functions, classes and modules and generating vector embeddings with sentence-transformers and FAISS, backed by a native Rust search core that adds HNSW nearest-neighbour search, a BM25 keyword index and a tree-sitter AST chunker across ten languages. Searches can run in semantic, keyword, regex or hybrid modes, and a four-stage retrieval-augmented generation pipeline retrieves, deduplicates, re-ranks and assembles context with source citations.
It also builds import and call-graph context around a match, reports language and module breakdowns, supports linked multi-repository workspaces, and can run as an interactive terminal REPL. Thirteen built-in tools are exposed over an HTTP bridge and an MCP server, including MCP-over-SSE, with Claude Desktop auto-configuration and a plugin system with twenty-two extension hooks.
It is written in Python with a Rust core and released under the MIT license.
