Design Patterns MCP Server
An MCP server that recommends software design patterns from natural-language queries, searching a catalog of 710 patterns across 90-plus categories using blended semantic, keyword and graph-augmented retrieval.
Design Patterns MCP Server is an MCP server that provides design-pattern recommendations through a natural-language interface, backed by a catalog of 710 design patterns across more than 90 categories, including classic Gang-of-Four patterns, architectural patterns, microservices and cloud patterns, data-engineering patterns, and AI and MLOps patterns.
It answers a query using a blended retrieval-augmented approach that combines semantic search, BM25 keyword search and graph-augmented retrieval, with a multi-level cache made of an in-memory layer and a SQLite layer reporting a high hit rate, and an event bus that decouples its internal services. Setup builds a SQLite database of patterns, seeds it, generates embeddings and sets up pattern relationships, using Bun as the project's package manager. Once running, it is configured into an MCP client such as Claude Desktop or Cursor to answer pattern questions directly in that client.
It is written in TypeScript and MIT licensed.
