Draw.io Scientific Illustrator

Draw.io Scientific Illustrator is a Codex plugin that lets an AI agent draw scientific figures step by step inside the visible draw.io desktop canvas, so a user can watch shapes, labels, arrows, styling, and layout appear as they are created. It works by calling draw.io's own graph API through a localhost-only MCP server, rather than automating the operating system's mouse and keyboard or building an XML file to open afterward.

The repository contains two MCP servers, one that launches and edits the live draw.io graph and one that validates saved .drawio files and exports PNG, SVG, PDF, or JPG, plus a Codex skill that guides the agent through inspecting a reference image, decomposing it into primitives, and drawing with pacing and review.

This repository is now a legacy version, tested on Windows, with development moved to a successor project named scientific-illustrator.
