EchoVault
A local-first memory tool for coding agents that stores decisions, bug fixes and project context as markdown, indexed with full-text search and optional semantic search.
EchoVault gives a coding agent persistent memory across sessions: decisions, bug fixes and lessons learned are saved locally and surfaced automatically in future sessions, rather than being rediscovered each time. It works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and OpenCode through one command that configures each agent's MCP settings.
It runs as an MCP server exposing memory_save, memory_search and memory_context tools, with no background daemon and no RAM cost when idle. Memories are stored as markdown files in a local vault, readable in Obsidian or any editor, and stay on the local machine unless cloud embeddings are explicitly enabled. Search works with FTS5 keyword search out of the box, with optional Ollama or OpenAI embeddings for semantic search.
It also supports structured operational memory such as playbooks and known fixes, a token-budgeted project context pack, and retrieval quality tools including an explain mode and a golden-set evaluation. It is written in Python and licensed under MIT.
