ExcelMcp
An MCP server and CLI that automate the real Microsoft Excel application through its COM API, letting AI agents run Power Query, DAX, VBA and PivotTable operations while preserving formatting and macros.
ExcelMcp automates the actual Microsoft Excel application, rather than parsing spreadsheet files directly, by driving its official COM API. It can refresh Power Query, recalculate formulas, evaluate DAX, run VBA and Python's in-cell function, and preserve PivotTables, charts, macros, the data model and workbook formatting while it works. It exposes 31 tools covering 326 operations, spanning data and analytics such as Power Query, DAX and Power Pivot; cell and workbook operations such as ranges, formulas and named ranges; charts and visuals including slicers and conditional formatting; and automation features such as VBA, Python in Excel, Goal Seek and scenarios.
It is reachable as an MCP server for clients such as Claude Desktop, or as a token-efficient command-line interface for coding agents and scripts; both expose the same underlying commands and behavior. Because Excel performs the work directly, a user can watch and keep editing the workbook while an agent operates it.
It requires Windows, Microsoft Excel 2016 or later, and an interactive desktop session, and is not intended for Linux, macOS or server-side batch processing.
