exomem

A self-hosted MCP server that turns an existing Obsidian or plain Markdown vault into searchable, durable memory for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other MCP-capable agents, with sourced, hybrid retrieval over a governed corpus.

exomem

exomem indexes an owned Markdown or Obsidian vault, including PDFs, Office documents, images and audio inside it, for hybrid semantic and keyword search, exposed through MCP tools. Files stay plain, local, portable and remain editable outside the server; the index scales to about 50,000 notes with sub-second retrieval.

A one-line installer sets up its dependencies, installs exomem, and configures every detected agent client on the machine, wiring up Claude Code and Codex with the MCP server, capture and retrieve hooks, and ten bundled skills. Claude Code can also install exomem as a plugin, connecting either to a shared HTTP-based service or running the server over stdio for local-only use.

It is written in Python and licensed under AGPL-3.0.
