GitHub Copilot CLI
A command-line interface that brings GitHub Copilot's coding agent into the terminal, using natural-language conversations to build, debug and understand code while staying connected to a GitHub account.
GitHub Copilot CLI brings GitHub Copilot's agentic coding assistant into the terminal. It uses the same agent harness as GitHub's Copilot coding agent, so a developer can build, debug and understand code through natural-language conversations without leaving the command line.
It works locally and synchronously, reading a repository and its GitHub context, and can access repositories, issues and pull requests using natural language with the developer's existing GitHub authentication. It ships with GitHub's MCP server by default and also supports custom MCP servers to extend its capabilities. Every action is shown for approval before it runs.
It requires an active Copilot subscription and runs on Linux, macOS and Windows; on Windows it needs PowerShell 6 or later.
