GitMCP

A free, open-source remote MCP server that turns any GitHub repository or GitHub Pages site into a documentation hub AI coding assistants can query.

GitMCP

GitMCP is a remote Model Context Protocol server that transforms any GitHub project, whether a repository or a GitHub Pages site, into a documentation hub, giving AI tools access to up-to-date documentation and code even for libraries the underlying model has never seen. The aim is to reduce hallucinated APIs and code examples, especially for niche, new or rapidly changing libraries.

It supports two modes: a specific-repository endpoint that targets one project for better relevance and security, and a generic server that lets the assistant choose which repository to query for each request. Built-in smart search limits token use when finding relevant documentation.

GitMCP runs in the cloud, so using it only requires adding the chosen URL as an MCP server in a compatible client such as Cursor -- no downloads, installation or signup -- and it also offers an in-browser chat for talking directly to a repository's documentation.
