Hecate
A semantic search engine for the OHDSI medical vocabulary, built as a Rust API and autocomplete service with a React frontend, also reachable as an MCP server for AI agents.
Hecate provides semantic search over the OHDSI standardized medical vocabulary, used for mapping clinical concepts such as conditions, drugs, and procedures across healthcare data standards. It consists of three components: a React-based frontend for interactive semantic search, a Rust API backend that serves concept data and search results, and a separate Rust autocomplete service for search suggestions.
The project is used by several other tools in the OHDSI ecosystem, including Ariadne, an EMA authorized drug mapping tool, KEEPER, Phenelope, and a project called Study Agent. Beyond the web interface and REST API, an MCP server is available over Streamable HTTP so an AI agent can query the vocabulary directly, and the project can also be run locally with PostgreSQL and Qdrant.
