jCodeMunch MCP
An MCP server that indexes a codebase with tree-sitter and retrieves exact functions, classes, and symbols by name, cutting the tokens a coding agent spends reading whole files.
jCodeMunch MCP is an MCP server for precise source-code retrieval, aimed at cutting the token cost of letting a coding agent explore a repository. Instead of opening entire files and skimming past irrelevant lines, it parses a codebase once with tree-sitter and stores structured symbol metadata, such as a function or class's signature, kind, qualified name, and byte offsets, alongside the raw file content in a local index, then fetches exact implementations on demand.
Its retrieval covers finding a specific symbol, pulling only the relevant symbols and imports for a module, querying outlines and trees to explore repository structure, and a dedicated call to estimate the effect of changing a given piece of code. It works with Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex CLI, Windsurf, Continue, and any other MCP-compatible client, and is free for personal use, with separate commercial licenses for using it to make money.
It is written in Python.
