JevGrep

A semantic code search tool for coding agents that scores code fragments with an AI judgment layer instead of exact-string matching, returning source excerpts with file paths and line numbers.

JevGrep

JevGrep helps coding agents find relevant code when they do not know the file name or symbol to search for. Given a question such as where session expiry is handled, it scans an authorized repository, asks a service called Jev to score all eligible fragments, then returns the original source excerpts with their paths and line numbers for the calling agent to read in detail.

It is used from a CLI or a local MCP server, searches every valid UTF-8 text file regardless of language or extension, and is meant to complement exact tools like ripgrep rather than replace them: when the exact symbol or literal is already known, ordinary text search is faster.

It requires Node.js 24 and an API key from TypeSafe AI, Vercel AI Gateway or OpenRouter, installs from npm under a scoped package name, and is configured once per machine and per repository with an init command.
