KiCAD MCP Server
An MCP server that lets AI assistants such as Claude control KiCAD for printed circuit board design: authoring and editing schematics, creating custom footprints and symbols, running an autorouter, and pulling in parts data from JLCPCB and LCSC.
KiCAD MCP Server bridges AI assistants to KiCAD over the Model Context Protocol, giving natural-language control of PCB design operations. It registers 244 tools across 17 categories with JSON Schema validation, of which 184 are indexed for keyword-based discovery, and exposes 23 dynamic resources that reflect the current project's state.
It supports a complete schematic workflow of 65 tools covering authoring, batch edits and hierarchy, dynamic loading from a library of about 10,000 symbols, custom footprint and symbol creation, integration with the Freerouting autorouter, and real-time integration with the KiCAD UI over its IPC API. Parts data comes from a JLCPCB catalog of more than 2.5 million components with local library search, enriched with datasheets from LCSC.
It runs cross-platform on Linux, Windows and macOS and is built on the MCP 2025-06-18 specification. Its successor, a from-scratch rewrite in Rust called Konnect, ships as a native KiCad 10 plugin under a different license; this Python and TypeScript server continues to be maintained separately under the MIT license.
