kincode
A single-binary, zero-dependency AI coding assistant for the terminal, written in Go, supporting Anthropic, OpenAI and Ollama backends with built-in tools, subagents, an approval gate and automatic post-edit build verification.
kincode ships as roughly a 10 MB binary with no runtime dependencies, offering 14 built-in tools including file read, write, edit and multi-edit, glob, grep, git, web fetch and search, memory, subagent spawning and a todo list. An approval gate defined in a configuration file stops specific tool calls for human confirmation, matching shell commands against allow rules at the level of the actual command rather than a blanket permission.
After a round of edits, kincode automatically runs the matching build or type-check command and feeds the compiler's output back to the model, making the edit-verify-fix loop automatic rather than something the prompt has to request. An undo endpoint reverts only the last turn's own file changes, leaving the user's uncommitted work untouched. Named subagents are defined as Markdown files with YAML frontmatter and dispatched by the parent model, and an external skill-forge directory turns skill files into regular tools at startup.
It supports plan mode, a read-only investigation-and-draft state that requires explicit approval before editing, background commands with persistent shell state, and vision input for supported Anthropic and OpenAI models.
