Local LLM Chat for Visual Studio

This is a Visual Studio extension that adds a chat panel for talking to local or OpenAI-compatible language models directly inside the IDE, with access to solution files and directories and the ability to generate new files.

Local LLM Chat for Visual Studio

The extension embeds a persistent chat tool window in Visual Studio that keeps conversation history for the session and connects to Ollama, LM Studio, OpenAI or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. From the chat, a developer can load a solution file into context, list or search directories with wildcard patterns, and send the active file with one command, so questions can refer directly to real project code.

The assistant can also propose whole new files, which the extension writes into the solution, for tasks such as generating a service class from a plain-language description.

It targets Visual Studio 2022, is written in C#, and is released under the GPL-2.0 license.
