mcp-chat

An open-source, generic MCP client for testing and evaluating MCP servers and agents from an interactive command-line or web chat interface.

mcp-chat

mcp-chat is a generic Model Context Protocol client for testing and evaluating MCP servers and agents. From the command line, it spawns a chat prompt connected to one or more MCP servers, or reads server definitions from an existing Claude Desktop configuration file, and lets a user chat with an LLM while it calls those servers' tools.

A web mode provides the same functionality through a browser UI, where chats and MCP server configuration can be managed dynamically without command-line flags; chats from both modes are saved to the same local history directory. It requires an Anthropic API key, supports choosing between models, customizing the system prompt, and viewing tool call arguments and output directly in the chat to help debug an MCP server.

It is written in TypeScript and licensed under MIT.
