MCP-NixOS

An MCP server that gives an AI assistant accurate, real-time data on NixOS packages, options, Home Manager, nix-darwin, Nixvim, NVF, FlakeHub and Nix functions.

MCP-NixOS

MCP-NixOS provides real-time information about the Nix ecosystem to an MCP-compatible AI assistant, querying live APIs rather than relying on the model's own training data, which the project says otherwise leads it to invent package names that do not exist. It covers more than 130,000 NixOS packages, 23,000 NixOS options, 5,000 Home Manager options, 1,000 nix-darwin settings, Nixvim and NVF Neovim configuration options, FlakeHub flakes, Noogle function signatures, and NixOS Wiki documentation.

It requires no local Nix or NixOS installation, since it only queries external APIs, and runs as a Python package through uvx, Nix, Docker, or over HTTP with FastMCP, including a stateless HTTP mode. It also supports the Pi coding agent through either a dedicated MCP adapter or a project-local extension bundled in this repository.
