mcp-proxy

A bridge that lets an MCP client and server communicate even when they support different transports, converting between stdio and SSE or Streamable HTTP.

mcp-proxy

mcp-proxy is a bridge between different Model Context Protocol transports, supporting two directions: running a local stdio proxy that connects out to a remote SSE or Streamable HTTP server, and running an SSE-to-stdio proxy the other way. The first mode lets a client that only speaks stdio reach a remote MCP server it could not otherwise connect to.

Configuration options include custom headers for the remote connection, a choice between SSE and Streamable HTTP transport, and OAuth2 client-credentials authentication with a token endpoint. It can be installed from PyPI, from its GitHub repository, or run as a container, with a Docker Compose setup and guidance for extending the container image documented for production use.

It is written in Python and released under the MIT license.
