MCP Toolbox for Databases
An open-source Model Context Protocol server that connects AI agents, IDEs and applications directly to databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, MongoDB and Spanner, with prebuilt tools and a framework for building custom, secured database tools.
MCP Toolbox for Databases is an open-source MCP server that connects AI agents, IDEs and applications to enterprise databases, including BigQuery, Elasticsearch, Firestore, MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Spanner, ClickHouse, Redis, TiDB and CockroachDB.
Prebuilt generic tools let an MCP client such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code or Codex explore schemas, list tables and run queries against a database without custom code. A separate runtime framework lets developers build specialized, access-controlled tools for production agents, defining structured queries, semantic search and natural-language-to-SQL capabilities, and integrating them into the Agent Development Kit, LangChain, LlamaIndex or a custom agent in under ten lines of code.
It handles connection pooling, integrated IAM authentication, and end-to-end observability through OpenTelemetry out of the box. It is written in Go and released under the Apache 2.0 license; the project was previously named Gen AI Toolbox for Databases.
