MCP Tools

A TypeScript library built on the MCP SDK that adds authentication and authorization to Model Context Protocol clients and servers.

MCP Tools

MCP Tools sits on top of the MCP TypeScript SDK to make it easier to add authentication to an application that acts as an MCP client, an MCP server, or both. In the Model Context Protocol, a client such as an AI assistant asks a server, such as an integration with a private service, for permission to access a user's data or take an action on their behalf.

The library provides separate tooling for building a client that requests access to another service and for building a server that exposes a protected resource to MCP clients, so a project first identifies which role it is building before wiring in the corresponding pieces. Framework-specific guides cover integrating an MCP client or server with Express.js, Hono and Next.js.

It is written in TypeScript and released under the MIT license.
