mlx-code

A git-native coding agent for Mac that runs entirely locally through Apple's MLX framework, using commits, branches and worktrees as the agent's own state, history and execution model.

mlx-code

mlx-code treats Git itself as the coding agent's state machine: every file-changing step the agent takes is committed together with the conversation that produced it, so a session can be inspected, resumed, or branched from any checkpoint, and a branch represents a different reasoning path with its own worktree and session state. Its command-line REPL and tab, branch and delegated sub-task concepts are all instances of the same underlying agent abstraction, and each layer is importable and usable on its own from Python code.

The agent edits inside a separate Git worktree rather than the user's main checkout, so a failed attempt can be inspected or discarded without ever touching the main branch. It runs with a local MLX model out of the box with no API keys or cloud dependency, or it can be pointed at a remote provider instead, and it installs as an ephemeral run or as a regular Python package.

  • rig

    tryrig.ai

A small, single-binary agent runtime that points at any OpenAI-compatible model, local or hosted, reads and edits a repository's code, runs its tests and remembers what it learned, with a loop implemented in a few hundred lines.

  • Jauvex

    jauvex.reindent.com

An Electron desktop app that puts Claude Code, Codex and Grok coding-agent sessions side by side and lets you steer them by voice, with a small model handling fast routing decisions.
