Music21 Analysis - Multi-Interface Music Server
A multi-interface music analysis and generation toolkit built on the music21 library, offering the same 13 analysis tools through an MCP server, an HTTP API, CLI tools and a Python library.
Music21 Analysis wraps the music21 library's music analysis and generation features behind four interfaces built on a shared, protocol-independent core: an MCP server for Claude Desktop integration, an HTTP REST API for web applications, CLI tools for automation, and direct Python library access. Its 13 analysis tools cover importing and exporting formats such as MusicXML, MIDI, ABC and Lilypond, key analysis with several algorithms, Roman-numeral and chord-progression harmony analysis, cadence detection, and voice-leading and pattern-recognition checks.
Its more advanced capabilities include Bach-chorale and jazz-style harmonization, species counterpoint generation, learning and generating music in a given composer's style, and score manipulation such as transposition, time stretching and orchestration. It installs from PyPI or from source with uv, and separate command-line entry points launch each of the MCP, HTTP or CLI interfaces.
