nvim-mcp

An MCP server that connects AI coding agents to a running Neovim session over its native msgpack-RPC socket, without needing a Neovim plugin.

nvim-mcp

nvim-mcp is a Model Context Protocol server that gives AI agents direct access to a running Neovim session. It connects through Neovim's built-in msgpack-RPC socket, so no Neovim plugin has to be installed, and it works with Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and other MCP-compatible clients.

Through the server, an agent can see the editor's mode, working directory, open buffers, window layout, cursor position, folds, selections, marks and diagnostics. It can edit buffers in memory with find-and-replace or full rewrites, run Vim commands, send keystrokes, read LSP diagnostics, and add highlights or virtual text without changing a buffer's real content. It also auto-discovers multiple running Neovim instances and connects to the right one.

It installs and runs through uv or Nix.
