Open Island

A native, open-source macOS notch app that gives a real-time control surface for AI coding agents across thirteen tools and fifteen-plus terminals and IDEs: session status, permission approvals, and instant jump-back to the right terminal.

Open Island

Open Island is a native macOS companion app, built with SwiftUI and AppKit rather than as an Electron wrapper, that sits in the Mac notch or top bar to give a persistent, real-time control surface for AI coding agents. It shows session status and permission approval requests and jumps back to the exact terminal or IDE session in one click, without leaving the current window.

It supports thirteen coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and OpenCode, each with hook-based integration for session lifecycle events, permission and question flows, and usage tracking, and works across more than fifteen terminals and IDEs such as Terminal.app, Ghostty, iTerm2, VS Code and several JetBrains IDEs.

It runs entirely locally with no server, telemetry or account required, is written in Swift, and is released under the GPL-3.0 license as an open-source alternative to closed-source agent-monitoring menu bar apps.
