OpenCollab MCP

An MCP server that helps an AI chat client find a good open-source "first issue" matched to a developer's skills, using live GitHub data to check whether an issue is already claimed and plan a pull request.

OpenCollab MCP

OpenCollab is a Model Context Protocol server, usable from Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, or any MCP-compatible client, that gives an AI assistant six tools reading the GitHub API to find, evaluate, verify, and plan an open-source contribution. Given a GitHub username, the assistant can find issues matched to the user's skills, evaluate whether the repository is worth the user's time, verify that an issue is not already claimed by someone else, and plan a pull request with full context.

OpenCollab itself does not generate text; it only supplies the connected AI client with clean, real-time GitHub data for the client to reason over. Version 0.6.0 relaunched with a leaner set of 6 tools after finding that most of a previous 22-tool version went unused and that large tool lists hurt LLM routing quality; the full 22-tool version remains available on a separate branch.

It requires a GitHub personal access token with public_repo scope and can be installed with uvx, plain pip, or run in Docker for remote setups.
