pi_agent_rust

A from-scratch Rust port of Pi Agent, a native terminal AI coding agent CLI, built to start faster and use fewer resources than managed-runtime or Electron-based alternatives.

pi_agent_rust

pi_agent_rust is a from-scratch Rust port of Pi Agent, a terminal AI coding assistant, made with the original author's blessing. Its official release installs a single end-user binary with streaming responses and 36 built-in tools, 19 of them in the default tool list, 14 always present in the model's schema, and the rest reachable through a dispatcher or enabled in settings.

The project no longer aims to be a strict drop-in replacement for the original TypeScript implementation, which it says became both impractical and undesirable as that implementation evolved; instead it treats another project as the closer reference for its feature surface, workflows and look and feel, while choosing Rust-native architecture where that produces a simpler or safer result. It builds on two purpose-built Rust libraries: a structured-concurrency async runtime with built-in HTTP, TLS and SQLite, and a Rust port of a terminal formatting library.

All quality checks, builds and releases run through the project's own release tooling rather than invoking Cargo directly.
