pi-better-openai

An extension for the Pi coding agent that adds a faster response mode, OpenAI subscription usage visibility, image generation and animated footer pets for OpenAI-based workflows.

pi-better-openai

pi-better-openai adds several small conveniences for people using OpenAI models inside the Pi coding agent: a toggleable fast mode for supported models, a display of current OpenAI subscription usage in the status footer and through a dedicated command, an interactive settings picker, and image generation or editing through a dedicated tool and command using Pi's existing OAuth login for OpenAI's Codex product. It also renders animated custom pets in the footer that can be managed through a command with subcommands to list, wake, tuck or select one.

Configuration is read from a project-level file that overrides a global file, with invalid values ignored and numeric settings clamped to safe ranges; the extension itself does not store or expose the underlying authentication credentials.

It requires Node.js 22.19.0 or newer, is written in TypeScript, and is released under the MIT license.
