RAG Crash Course

A hands-on course that builds a retrieval-augmented-generation system from scratch in plain Python, one Jupyter notebook at a time, before showing the same pipeline rebuilt with LangChain.

RAG Crash Course

RAG Crash Course teaches retrieval-augmented generation by having the learner build every part of a question-answering system themselves: calling a language model, creating embeddings, chunking text, and searching a vector database, using a fictional company's documents as the working example. No prior machine-learning knowledge is assumed.

The course is organized as seven ordered Jupyter notebooks, moving from what RAG is and why it is needed, through embeddings, chunking and vector search, to assembling a complete pipeline by hand and then reproducing it with LangChain in far less code. A setup guide covers installing Python, getting an API key, and an alternative that uses local Ollama models at no cost. Running the whole course with the cheapest OpenAI models typically costs a few cents.

A platform that pairs a Rete rule engine with retrieval-augmented generation, so deterministic rules decide an outcome and grounded retrieval explains the decision in plain language.

  • Xtriever

    github.com

A hybrid retrieval engine for retrieval-augmented generation, written in Rust to run on-device on a phone or a laptop, combining lexical BM25 search, dense embedding search, reciprocal-rank fusion and cross-encoder re-ranking with no server.

A .NET library that turns PDF, DOCX, HWP and other documents into optimized chunks for RAG systems, through a five-stage pipeline built on high-performance Rust FFI readers.
