ssh-mcp-server

An MCP server that lets an AI assistant run SSH commands and transfer files on remote servers through a standardized interface, without exposing SSH credentials to the model.

ssh-mcp-server

ssh-mcp-server is a bridge that lets AI assistants supporting the Model Context Protocol execute commands on remote servers over SSH. It supports password and private-key authentication, including keys protected by a passphrase, and both exec and shell transport modes, so it works against a direct host or through a bastion or jump server.

SSH credentials are managed locally rather than passed to the AI model, and command execution can be restricted with a configurable allow list and deny list. It also supports two-way file transfer, uploading a local file to a server or downloading a file from one, and can list all configured servers. An installable skill walks a user through configuration interactively instead of hand-editing JSON.

It is written in JavaScript, runs with npx without a global install, and is distributed as an npm package.
