Tabby

A self-hosted AI coding assistant offered as an open-source, on-premises alternative to GitHub Copilot, running without a separate database or cloud service and supporting consumer-grade GPUs.

Tabby

Tabby is self-contained, needing no external DBMS or cloud service to run, and exposes an OpenAPI interface for integrating it into existing infrastructure such as a cloud IDE. Its Answer Engine acts as a central knowledge tool for an engineering team, integrating a team's internal data and documentation, added through REST APIs, to answer developer questions, and can turn those answers into persistent, shareable pages. A VS Code extension provides inline code completion using locally relevant snippets, such as declarations from the local language server and recently modified code, alongside a chat side panel that can reference files with an @-mention and edit code inline.

Other stated capabilities include indexing GitLab merge requests as searchable context, switching between different backend chat models, an admin UI with team usage statistics, and GitHub and GitLab integration, including turning a GitHub issue into a task that produces a pull request with a CI, lint and test results breakdown.

It is written in Rust.
