Tauren

A VS Code extension for a transparent AI coding assistant, built on the Pi engine, that traces generated code back to the agent session and reasoning that produced it and shows every tool call.

Tauren

Tauren is a VS Code coding assistant built on the Pi agent engine, focused on session-based workflows, code traceability and full visibility into every tool call rather than hidden prompts. It can jump from a line of code back to the historical agent session that created it, reconnecting current code with the agent's reasoning history and related git commits even across later refactors and file moves, and session diffs show exactly what changed during a session.

It builds on Pi's tree-based, resumable session management and transparent tool execution, and adds a keyboard-centric workflow, parallel and background sessions, IDE context, drag-and-drop or pasted file attachments, and optional guardrails that restrict the agent to the current workspace. Customization comes through Pi extensions: status lines, themeable UI overlays, and widgets above and below the prompt, with support for ANSI escape sequences, the Kitty protocol and TUI image rendering. It installs from the VS Code Marketplace and is configured with a provider and model through its settings panel.
