Toad

A terminal user interface that unifies access to many coding agents, such as Claude, Gemini and Codex, combining a full interactive shell with an agent chat, a markdown prompt editor and a fuzzy file picker.

Toad

Toad is a unified terminal interface for AI coding agents such as Claude, Gemini, Codex and OpenHand. It combines a shell-based workflow with agentic AI in one terminal user interface, and includes a catalog for finding, installing and running dozens of supported agents, with developers able to add support for their own agents through the Agent Client Protocol.

Unlike terminal agent interfaces that can only run commands without a real shell behind them, Toad integrates a fully working shell with full-color output, interactive commands and tab completion, so directory changes and environment variables persist and a user can interleave agent prompts with ordinary shell work. It also includes a markdown prompt editor with syntax highlighting, a fuzzy and tree-based file picker for adding files to a prompt, and side-by-side or unified diff views.

It is written in Python and released under the AGPL-3.0 license, with a commercial license option.
