Typesense

A fast, typo-tolerant open-source search engine, positioned as an alternative to Algolia and Elasticsearch, with support for geosearch and semantic search.

Typesense

Typesense is a typo-tolerant search engine for building search experiences, positioned as an open-source alternative to Algolia and Pinecone and an easier-to-use alternative to Elasticsearch. It is built in C++ and designed for low-latency search, with typo tolerance handled out of the box.

Typesense is run as a server, most simply through Docker, and exposes a documented API along with client libraries in several languages, including a Python client used in the project's quick-start example. Beyond keyword search, it supports geosearch and browsing use cases, faceting, synonyms, and semantic or hybrid vector search over large datasets.

The project publishes several live demos covering large public datasets, including a 32 million song catalog, a 28 million book library, an e-commerce browsing experience, and semantic search over Hacker News comments, and documents building the project from source for developers who want to work on Typesense itself.

A hybrid retrieval engine for retrieval-augmented generation, written in Rust to run on-device on a phone or a laptop, combining lexical BM25 search, dense embedding search, reciprocal-rank fusion and cross-encoder re-ranking with no server.
