Vixl

A local-first desktop coding agent positioned as an alternative to Cursor, Antigravity, and VS Code coding agents, using bring-your-own-key access to local or cloud language models through MCP.

Vixl

Vixl is a desktop coding agent that runs against local large language models or the user's own API keys, aiming to reduce the cost of agent-assisted coding compared with a single subscription-priced chat plan. It connects to models through the Model Context Protocol and supports OpenAI-compatible and Ollama-hosted models alongside local inference.

The project is distributed as a downloadable desktop release, with a public roadmap and a contribution process that documents setup, the pull request process, and signed commits. It is written in TypeScript and licensed under MIT.
