XERJ

A local search engine that automatically indexes a folder of code, documents, logs, and PDFs so a coding agent can retrieve exact matches instead of reading files one by one, with an Elasticsearch-compatible API.

XERJ

XERJ indexes a project's files automatically, letting a coding agent search for the exact code or text it needs instead of reading through files sequentially. One described use is reference coding: pointing an agent at a task so it downloads, indexes, and reuses how similar open-source repositories solved the same problem before writing its own code.

Because it exposes an Elasticsearch-compatible API, existing Elasticsearch clients can be pointed at it without changes. An insecure mode disables TLS and API-key authentication for a single local user, and a node bound to any interface other than localhost in that mode refuses to start unless explicitly allowed.

It is written in Rust and released under the Apache-2.0 license.
