A Zotero plugin that adds local, offline semantic search over a research library, plus a built-in read-only MCP server so AI coding agents can search and cite the same papers.
ZotSeek adds AI-powered semantic search to Zotero, finding papers by meaning rather than only by keyword match, using models that run entirely on the user's machine with no data sent to the cloud. It works from the right-click menu to find documents similar to one already open, from a text selection in a PDF, and from natural-language queries, including combining up to four queries with AND or OR logic.
Search can also cover the text of notes attached to an item, off by default, and combines the AI results with a keyword search over PDF text and note content in a hybrid mode. A built-in, opt-in, read-only MCP server lets Claude Code, Codex, or other MCP clients search the same library and cite papers with links that open directly to the matching PDF page. It supports Zotero versions 8 through 10.
