Argos Translate

An open-source Python library for offline machine translation, usable as a library, a command-line tool, or a GUI, with automatic pivoting through an intermediate language when no direct model is installed.

Argos Translate

Argos Translate is an open-source offline translation library written in Python. It uses OpenNMT for translation and can be used as a Python library, a command-line tool, or a GUI application, and it installs language model packages distributed as zip archives with the argosmodel extension.

When no direct model is installed between two languages, it automatically pivots through an intermediate language it does have translations for, trading some translation quality for broader language coverage. It is available on PyPI and installs with pip, and its argospm command-line tool downloads and installs language packages. LibreTranslate is a separate API and web application built on top of Argos Translate.
