Echo

An experimental macOS prototype that uses the Accessibility API and the OpenAI API to send prompts to the frontmost application's text area and show the response in a chat-like interface.

Echo

Echo is a macOS application that demonstrates driving another, unmodified application through the system Accessibility API combined with a call to the OpenAI API: it detects the frontmost application, sends a typed prompt such as a request to convert code to Objective-C or fix typos, and writes the model's response back into the focused text area, displayed in a chat-like view.

The project is explicitly an experimental prototype demonstrating this approach rather than a finished tool, built with Xcode and requiring an OpenAI API key set as an environment variable, and it needs the user to grant Accessibility permissions the first time it runs. It only works with a target application that exposes a standard accessible text area.
