Pikeru

A Linux file picker, file searcher and image viewer that works with any desktop environment through an xdg-desktop-portal backend, adding thumbnail browsing, semantic image search and configurable per-file commands.

Pikeru

Pikeru replaces the standard Linux file-chooser dialog through the xdg-desktop-portal system, so applications such as web browsers and other portal-aware software use it for file selection. Beyond ordinary browsing, it can search images by their semantic content in addition to file name, view multiple selected directories at once, open an image full-screen with a right click and scroll through neighboring images, run configured commands on selected files from a command menu, and apply a postprocessor script automatically to files as they are selected.

Semantic search is optional and configured separately: it needs a command that produces a description or tags for a file, a command that checks whether that indexing command is currently usable, and a list of file extensions the indexing command supports; a bundled caption-generation server can run locally or on a separate machine to build the search index.

It is written in Rust and released under the GPL-3.0 license.
