scalino

A Scala 3 toolchain that compiles straight to a native executable through Scala Native, with a self-hosted compiler, linker and build tool that require no JVM at all.

scalino

scalino lets you write, build and run Scala 3 without installing a JVM. It compiles through Scala Native rather than to JVM bytecode, and its compiler, linker and LSP server are themselves self-hosted: built by dotc from patched source and targeting Scala Native, so nothing in day-to-day use touches a JVM.

Today it ships a compiler, linker and build tool invoked as the scalino command; full editor support is planned next. It installs from a shell script, from per-OS release tarballs, or from Debian, RPM, Arch and Nix packages, and bundles a renamed copy of Coursier's launcher for dependency resolution, so no separate installer is needed for that. The only external requirement is a clang toolchain, since every build links through it.

Shell completions for bash, zsh and fish are installed automatically by the package managers, or ship pre-generated for manual installs.
