Tim's Markdown Reader

A small, free Mac app for reading Markdown files, with no editing, account or tracking, handy for reports and handoffs that AI coding agents leave behind.

Tim's Markdown Reader

Tim's Markdown Reader is a minimal, fast Markdown viewer for Mac, written in Swift, with no editor, account or tracking. Its own description frames it as handy for reading the Markdown files that AI tools and coding agents leave behind — reports, notes and handoffs — without opening a full editor.

It renders headings, tables, code blocks, task lists, footnotes and local images, plus offline Mermaid diagrams, with an in-document find command that highlights every match. Links between local Markdown files open in the same window with back and forward navigation, the app reloads a file automatically when it changes on disk, and it follows the system's light or dark mode. It opens .md, .markdown and .mdx files (MDX is shown as text, not executed).

It runs entirely offline, blocks remote images, and shows any HTML in a document as plain text instead of running it. It requires an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 14 or later, and can be built from source with Xcode.
