Copilot.el

An unofficial Emacs plugin for GitHub Copilot that adds inline ghost-text completions, an interactive chat interface and Next Edit Suggestions, talking to the official Copilot language server directly over JSON-RPC rather than through a generic LSP client.

Copilot.el

Copilot.el is an unofficial Emacs plugin for GitHub Copilot, providing inline completions shown as ghost text, an interactive chat interface, and Next Edit Suggestions, all powered by the official Copilot language server rather than a reimplementation.

It talks to that language server over JSON-RPC directly, using jsonrpc.el instead of a general LSP client such as eglot, because most of the Copilot protocol is not standard LSP and the plugin shares a single global server instance across every buffer and project. It requires Emacs 27 or later and access to GitHub Copilot, which has offered a free tier since early 2025, and installs from MELPA or several other Emacs package managers, downloading the Copilot language server's native binary automatically.
