Terax

Terax is a lightweight, open-source terminal-first AI-native development environment built on Tauri 2, Rust and React 19, at about 7 to 8 MB on disk with no telemetry and no account. It combines a native PTY-backed, WebGL-rendered terminal, an agentic AI side panel that can run against a user's own API keys or fully local models, a code editor, a file explorer, source control with a git graph, and a web preview pane, in one application.

The terminal supports multiple tabs with background streaming, split panels, inline search, true color, and drag-and-drop of files as shell-safe quoted paths. The code editor is built on CodeMirror 6, supporting most popular languages, with inline AI autocomplete, AI edit diffs that can be accepted or rejected hunk by hunk, optional language-server support, rendered Markdown and media viewing, and Vim mode. Source control covers staging and unstaging hunks, committing, pushing with upstream awareness, and a git history pane with a real commit graph.

It is written in TypeScript and Rust.
